BLACK just stayed at the most amazing hotel in San Louis Obispo California called the Madonna Inn. 109 themed rooms which vary from oriental fantasy, old mexico and caveman rooms. We stayed in a room called Rockbottom (bottom pic) were even the shower room was rock formed. We really wanted the Madonna Suite but this gets booked up months in advance. San Loius is just outside LA and is great for a stay over if you want to drive highway one to San Francisco via Big Sur…awesome! www.madonnainn.com
Glastonbury the movie – Black film indents
The Julian Temple just re-released film ‘Glastonbury’ features 2 pieces of super 8 film BLACK shot in 1998. The clips shown in the film, include a couple of heavy handed policemen and Tony Blair with George Bush in a romantic cuddle. The third, is a clip of Superman that unfortunately ended on the cutting room floor, though I thought he was super.

Small stakes
Black has discovered a great poster artist based in California. The posters, mostly for the music business, have a lovely spacious, intelligent feel throughout and sometimes nice idea, as on the pirate poster shown. Arrrrrr! More info and link below.
Arising from a love of independent music, design, and making for the sake of making, Jason Munn’s posters soon became a fixture in the local independent music scene.
He started The Small Stakes in the fall of 2003, and it has since unfolded into a successful independent design studio, producing nationally and internationally commissioned work in a range of print materials, including book covers, album packaging, T-shirt designs, screen-printed posters, and illustrations.

Each chim chimmaney christmas I make a cd for friends of the songs I have loved during that year..on Christmas eve, I tip toe into their home and pop the cd into their stocking. Hopefully they get some enjoyment from it on those dark January nights. This episode from the year 2007, is not so much a show as a collection of the bizzarre and the beautiful.
Specsaver
BLACK loves this new ad and film editing at its best. Set against a backround of moody sounds, a series of Twin Peaks styled scenes show electrical failures causing problems all over town. The scene cuts to a chainsaw going through a pole, which falls to the ground, leaving power cables arcing and hanging in the air, and joins a neat row of its partners also on the ground in a forest clearing. A lumberjack takes a satisfied look at his work and the screen message declares ‘should have gone to specsavers’.
The future’s bright…
…the future’s tangerine
We found the best shoe in the world. Not only is it a converse shoe, the comfiest of sneakers, its tangerine and white, the colours of my beloved football team the mighty tangerine wizards Blackpool FC. Of course I just had to have them to go with the 10ft long tangerine scarf mother knitted me. I was tempted to print my teams tower crest on the side of the heel, but that might have started a rush of fans wanting their own club crest in their club colours too. Give me a call Converse!
